A five-story building in Ano Petralona, which until today housed a craft industry, is being converted into a tourist apartment building and is becoming a new residential model for the area. Through the integration of local environment elements into the design philosophy, the new Pallineon House apartment hotel reflects the relationship between the present and the past. The spaces created are inextricably linked to the place they belong to, incorporating the element of locality and confronting it with the mixing of similar materials and textures. Structural elements of the building are preserved and highlighted through targeted interventions.
Pallineon House is located in the heart of the historic center of Athens, something that has been reflected in its design and relationship with the city. Modern and traditional elements have been harmoniously intertwined in spacious spaces that open through large windows to the view and the cityscape. Metal frames on the facades create a frame inside and give a new morphology to the surfaces of the building. In the interior, strong linear elements from the building's artisanal past combined with curved forms, embroidered fabrics, traditional wood carvings, jars and marble objects with archaic references are combined with modern furniture and lighting, composing a single whole that aims to interlink two different times .
The environment created uses as a background the warm earthy tones, the natural materials and the strong presence of the green element in every corner. The large openings on each side make every space of Pallineon House extremely bright, with natural light reflecting off the smooth surfaces and herringbone patterned wooden floor, which in turn enhances the element of warmth and purity of the spaces. Historical objects acquire multiple uses, such as a carved wooden sideboard that has a dual role, as a storage space as well as an alternative sink, while the classic coffee table and chairs open a creative dialogue with traditional textiles and earthenware. Pallineon House aims to create new scenarios and hospitality experiences, in a city that is constantly on alert.
