The accommodation 'MYCONIAN MYTHODEA' is the result of the renovation of the "grandfather's house'' in Ano Mera, Mykonos. It started to be built in 1960 and consists of a composition of three white volumes of different heights. For the owners, it was important that the changes did not affect the memories of their childhood.
So the basic idea moved to the revitalization of the existing shell by highlighting the traditional elements of Cycladic architecture with a modern architectural language. Thus, the white volumes were preserved, the existing shell with changes to the external openings where the glass windows were increased allowing the connection of internal and external spaces and internal changes creating a new structure. The building includes two en suite bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, living room. The external space consists of the outdoor kitchen-dining room and the pool area.
The choices of materials combine harmoniously and intensify the sense of calm. The frames are wooden in the color of olive. The dialogue between old and new is carried out by using traditional materials with a new interpretation, such as the combination of tiles in various patterns with pressed cement mortar. The coatings inside and floors are pressed cement mortar in earthy and white shades. Most of the furniture is tailor made by the architect. The fabrics used refer to rags and Greek woven, linen curtains give visual games of light. Architectural details, open washbasins, glass partitions, masonry and wooden constructions, special lighting complete the simple aesthetics. Outside, the planting, the pool, the rocks and the local stone of the paddock frame the building, intensifying the visitor's experience.
