The seafront Villa Mimaze is located on the coast of Elounda Bay in Crete and is a unique residence on the sea that combines a modern minimal style with an elegant simplicity. The overall philosophy is based on the idea of minimalist living. The guest steps away from the pace of modern life, eliminates the unnecessary and relaxes.
Villa Mimaze consists of three independent apartments fully equipped, offering all the services of a hotel. On the ground floor is the first apartment, which includes an open plan living room - kitchen, a bedroom and a bathroom and outdoor pool area. The other two apartments are located on the first floor. The second apartment includes a small single living room - kitchen area and three bedrooms with en suite bathroom. The third apartment is a suite, an open plan space with kitchen - bedroom - living room and open bathroom. Each apartment reflects a different experience and philosophy and ensures the desired privacy. The five luxurious bedrooms are spread over two floors and are carefully positioned to enjoy the stunning panoramic sea views.
The building is placed within the urban area on a seaside property. Its particularly long and narrow shape raises several limitations and concerns that had to be overcome. The plot gives a narrow front, main view towards the road and the sea. As a result, it was chosen to create an additional, distinct, external frame at a distance from the main building, between which the balconies are inserted. The frame attains a different slope from the main building and is shaped into a curve. The curve emerges from the building like the sail bended by the wind. This is why the white color is selected, inspired by the sea. The curved design was intentionally selected given that, due to its shape and the perspective it creates, it “enlarges” the narrow-fronted facade of the building, it gives an extra depth, it frames the view towards the sea and welcomes the visitor. Through the white frame, a suspended steel balcony appears as an observation point- belvedere towards the sea, while it points out the entrance of the residence. The balcony is selected to be made of steel to provide a sense of levitation and to differentiate from the rest of the building.
The interior design follows a strict minimal approach. A total white mood dominates with delicate touches of color in the specially selected materials, furniture, lighting and decoration. An eye-catching feature is the botanical patio in the middle of the villa, which contrasts beautifully with the white architecture of Villa Mimaze. The patio runs along the height of the residence and offers more favorable conditions of natural ventilation, cooling and lighting, improving the microclimate in the interior, providing additional visual pleasure. This feeling of relaxation, simplicity and luxury at the same time turns the holidays into the ultimate experience.
