The architectural concept was inspired by its location, the creation of islands within the island of Kos. Located in the Tigaki area, Utopia Blu is the realization of the clients’ family vision to create a unique, yet unexpected destination.
Elastic Architects undertook the architectural, as well as the interior design of the entire complex. The plot became a “white canvas” in order to establish not only an all-inclusive hotel, but a whole village in a modern Mediterranean -style approach.
The plot’s size is 34.720 sqm and the total built area is 9.500 sqm. Twelve new and five existing buildings, includes 262 guestrooms surrounded by 10 public pools of 2.606 sqm and 28 private pool areas of 560 sqm. The hotel building program also is embraced by three restaurants, five bar areas, outdoor theater, a kids club. The central square, which has all the traditional elements of a typical village square, is lined with sport facilities, shops and a small church, all blending with Mediterranean plantation and landscape.
The geometric architectural volumes stand out as “islands”, working in harmony with the organic shaped water elements in between, bringing a sense of serenity to the guests.
Wall stones carefully selected from Kalymnos, an island near Kos, establish the orthogonal identity of the volumes. Vertical & horizontal aluminum profiles in earthy tones, make a grid that integrates with the surroundings and create an internal play of light & shadow during the day. These synthetic features work as separation elements between the rooms, creating private garden lounges between them.
Buildings and water features frame a landmark building in the center of the “village square”, the Main Restaurant. The clay tiles on the façade enrich the transparency of the building, filter the light in the interior and reflect a sense of a lighthouse within the resort.
Interior materials are specially chosen in order to respect and reflect the warmth and colors of the surroundings. Furniture selection features items with elementary contemporary design, interchanging earthly tones with sharp colorful splashes. Bespoke marble surfaces, wooden finish textures & natural palette upholsteries compliment the holistic design approach.
