The privileged position of the old building on the urban sea side front of Rethymno, the obsolete morphology and the lack of quality elements of the existing structure, in the other hand the requirements of modern hospitality, the standards of function and operation of a modern hotel, and furthermore the desire to create a touristic product of high quality, were the input for the renovation of the existing hotel. The aim of the architectural study was to ensure a flowing, multi-dimensional function, the creation of "intermediate" transition areas that attribute characteristics between city hotels and resorts and the morphological connection between the contemporary design and the traditional architectural characteristics of the historic city of Rethymno.
For the renovation and the upgrading of the hotel, all the interior and exterior spaces have been completely redesigned. The new layout includes 77 rooms and suites, a fitness room, a spa, two restaurants, a central swimming pool and two sharing pools. For the interior finishes and the landscaping, modern materials such as granite slabs and glass, were combined with wood and stone. The facades were formed with plastered surfaces, wooden linings, elements of local beige stone and metallic canopies.
