Project Description
AthensWas Hotel is located on the Dionysius Areopagitou street. It is a Boutique hotel and a member of the group Design Hotels. It has 21 rooms - 3 suites- the restaurant Modern, the Modern Rooftop overlooking the Acropolis, a Meeting & Business Center, and a Fitness Corner.
The building, before the creation of the hotel, consisted of apartments. The shell was maintained, while necessary interventions were made to convert it into a hotel. The total study time and completion of the project was two years and the implementation-conversion cost is estimated at 2,500,000 euros.
Its design is based on the principles of classical modernism, using natural materials, mainly Greek marble and walnut wood.
At the rooms and suites, furniture commonly described as «modern classics», such as for example chairs LC3 that were designed in 1928 by Le Corbusier, the divan of Eileen Gray (1925), or the living room coffee table designed by Warren 1966 Platner, are combined perfectly with more modern creations of international design, such as, for example, the Canta and Biki sofas of Toshiyuki Kita, the chair Venus and lamp of Konstantin Grcic, fixtures of the Bouroullec brothers and Michael Anastassiades. The composition is completed by the printed carpets in various colors.
The Modern Restaurant also features details on the art de la table, with accessories designed by designers such as Ettore Sottsas, Mario Botta and Michael Graves.
The photographs of statues portraits from the Archaeological Museum taken by Steafos Samiou and the works of graphic artist ATH1281 printed on carpet are a characteristic of the hotel
Particular attention was given to the hotel's plants since exclusively Athenian plants were used such as Gazies, pomegranate, fig, ryghosperma and wisteria, myrtle and herbs.
