Project Description
ASEA Lounge Restaurant is a Japanese restaurant, part of the Hotel Mystique, A Luxury Collection Hotel in Oia of Santorini. The hotel is part of the worldwide chain Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
It took its name from the combination of the words sea and Asia, which is a direct reference to the landscape ahead of you and the flavors you are about to taste.
This location used to be a typical cliff of mud and stones at the edge of Caldera. Guided by the resolution of the difficulty of the terrace, the inspiration on the design came from the geomorphological landscapes found in the Aegean islands.
The configuration and operation of the space are developed in staggered altitudes, offering a variety of dining areas. In this way, the traditional and famous curves of the island are generated again and form the delimitation of the restaurant housing. The planning of the interior removes any traditional aspect and creates the ultimate design result. A modern core in a traditional scenic environment gives a new sophisticated image.
The dominant no-color of the island, black as a symbol of prestige, sophistication and good taste has the lead role highlighting specific sections in combination with the color of gray. Then comes the contrast. Solid pieces of white marble come in contact with the dark colors reminding of the purity and the Greek blinding light that reaches the black island of Santorini.
The hard marble gives its position to the soft black cork and the natural teak, thereby alleviating the severity of the rest of the color palette. Hard and soft textures, constracting colors, various materials reflect images of the island in a different way and create a special place where a visit is an experience.
The careful selection of the few furniture that are distinguished in the site was made by the Dedoulis Companies, MIACOLLECTION, and a Spanish company that specializes on special constructions of black cork. The other special structures, such as the bar, were determined based on the designing study for this specific site. The lighting study was done in collaboration with Elina Dasira.
The project planning time was two months (January-February 2014). The construction of the project began in February 2014 and was completed in May of the same year.
The implementation costs amounted to approximately EUR 120,000.
